" Digital Gymnast"
Greg Irwin Dives Hands First Into the Spotlight

Hamilton, Ohio – Hand coordination guru Greg Irwin, founder of HandHealth Unlimited and creator of the Finger Fitness™ training program, teaches hand and finger exercises to millions of adults and children around the world. Once described by Musician Magazine as a "digital gymnast," Irwin has made a career—and an art—out of prestidigitation.

Just look at the website for Irwin’s company, devoted entirely to hand and finger health (www.handhealth.com). There you’ll see pictures of Irwin surrounded by fans worldwide, clambering for more. In China, where he is a widely recognized performer and teacher, Irwin frequently finds himself surrounded by children and other fans intent upon knowing the secrets of "the art of finger control." In 2000, China’s CCTV-5 aired a documentary about his life and his work, titled Greg Irwin and His Fingers.

He’s known here in America as well, and has performed for millions on The Tonight Show in two separate performances. His famous hands are even featured in the exhibit called "A Show of Hands" at The Science Museum of Louisville. His trademark Finger Ballet is so spectacular that, once you see it, you’ll never look at hands quite the same way.

All in all, Irwin and his famous fingers have appeared on thirty different television programs in twelve different countries. Fans recognize his trademark pink and blue glove, dancing as if on their own accord against a black backdrop, with such grace and fluidity that it is hard to believe these are the gestures of one man’s hands.

But as spectacular as they are to watch, Irwin’s finger gymnastics are more than just for show. Although his world renowned "Finger Ballet" performances have garnered him the most fame, there’s more to this finger fanatic than just a few slight of hand tricks. Greg Irwin is a respected speaker and presenter who has taught adults and children around the world how to make their hands function better, whether for the sake of playing an instrument, performing a task, or just managing day-to-day responsibilities.

Irwin began developing the Finger Fitness™ techniques while studying music at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. Interested in training his hands to become more responsive, he created some simple bending and splitting exercises that soon expanded into a complete repertoire of finger isolation exercises. Greg and his wife, Lorraine, published these exercises in 1988 as Finger Fitness: The Art of Finger Control.

The exercises first gained popular acceptance in the music community, but interest soon grew. The foundation of Finger Fitness™ is overall hand health and is based on three core principles: maximizing ability, preventing injury, and therapeutic rehabilitation. Irwin applies those principles across his entire HandHealth Unlimited corporate philosophy. As the company motto boasts, its mission is "helping hands work and feel better." In support of that mission, every program Irwin designs for HandHealth Unlimited is developed with the help of a licensed hand therapist and is designed with rehabilitation, strengthening and conditioning in mind.

Throughout his career, Irwin has seen increased public awareness of the importance of maintaining hand health. He is a popular speaker and instructor and has led training sessions for corporate organizations and educational institutions including Lucent Technologies, AT&T, and Duquesne University.

And of course, the "magic fingers" of Greg Irwin are amazing to watch, even for those not interested in improving hand and finger dexterity. Arguably, it is this showmanship aspect that has made him so popular throughout this country and the world as a guest on television programs and a speaker at public engagements. A born entertainer, Irwin carries a natural enthusiasm about his work—and about hands in general—that lends a charismatic charm to his appearances and helps him connect with audiences of all nationalities, ages, and walks of life. "The hand is of widely underestimated importance," Irwin says eagerly. "But when you really think about it, for most of us, our hands and fingers are just about the most vital and important tools that we have."

This year, Greg Irwin takes his world renowned Finger Fitness™ training program to new levels with the March 1st, 2003 release of The Complete Hand Workout, a new hand and finger exercise video featuring a series of fun and challenging routines designed to take the student through the complete Finger Fitness™ training model. Throughout the video, Irwin uses colorful gloves, original music scores, and elegant, rhythmic routines to make the Finger Fitness™ program entertaining as well as educational. "It’s fun and easy to watch," he explains. "We’ve put the exercises to music using color-coded gloves for the left and right hands so you can follow right along."
